Compulsory Gear
Race numbers
All competitors must display their forward-facing race numbers in a visible manner at all times, for safety and athlete checking purposes.
Runners of each distance are clearly recognised by their race number and the colour of the numbers.
-
Short course runners and walkers – blue numbers - 6000-7000’s
-
Medium course runners and walkers – green numbers - 1000’s
-
Long course runners and walkers – red numbers - 2000’s
-
Super Long Course runners and walkers – yellow numbers - 3000’s
Timing chips are on the back of your race numbers.
Failure to display the number at any checkpoint will result in an enforced time penalty of 1 minute and the athlete will be asked to make the number visible before proceeding on the course. This time penalty shall be added to the athlete’s final finishing time.
Compulsory gear
There are rules relating to compulsory gear to help keep competitors warm and comfortable when running or walking. This compulsory gear is also beneficial in the event of any injuries or if you for any reason become immobile during the course. In the week prior to the race, at registration, and finally at the pre-race briefing, competitors will be advised what compulsory clothing and equipment items they must carry (based on the expected weather conditions).
-
5km Short race: There is no compulsory clothing for the Short 5km race, however we strongly recommend a thermal long sleeved Wool/Polypropylene top if cold and a rain jacket if wet or very cold.
-
For the 11km Medium, 23km Long, and 35km Super Long courses - there are three compulsory gear levels:
-
Clean trail shoes
-
Jacket - waterproof, windproof and seam sealed with a hood
-
Long sleeve thermal top (either merino or polypropylene
-
Important to note for all distances: The gear outlined above is the MINIMUM gear that we require you to bring in order to participate in the event. If the event day is cold, wet (or both) and if you as the competitor move slowly, additional items such as a thermal beanie, thermal top, long thermal bottoms and gloves may be beneficial.
Inspection of compulsory items
The following inspections will be undertaken:
-
The compulsory equipment will be inspected at race registration, before athletes can register. If the compulsory gear does not meet the required standard, the participant will not be able to register until equipment that does meet the standard is provided for inspection.
Additional checks may be undertaken:
-
The race director or delegate may choose to randomly spot check a sample of competitor items on the morning of the event at bus loading or at the race start.
-
The race director or delegate may choose to randomly spot check a sample of competitor equipment at the race finish line.
-
The compulsory items must be carries at all times by competitors. There will be zero tolerance for those who do not comply and athletes will not be able to continue on the course if they do not have the compulsory items with them when they arrive at the inspection point. Non-compliance will result in an instant disqualification. Any competitor who is found to discard compulsory equipment during the event will also be disqualified.
